Description: This planshows the first subdivision of the Harris estate by Edward Macarthur, which created the suburb of Pyrmont, dated 1837. The majority of the Pyrmont peninsula was granted in the early years of the colony to Surgeon John Harris, marked on the map as Dr. Harriss Estate, with the exception of 55 acres of the point facing Darling Harbour, which was granted to Thomas Jones, a private in the NSW Corps in 1795. It was then acquired by Sergeant Obadiah Ikin before being sold again in 1799 to John Macarthur. After Macarthurs death, his son Edward began clearing the land for subdivision. The initial subdivision was placed on the market in 1839-40
