Description: This booklet describes the so-called Tasman 'Bonaparte' map, an ornate manuscript map on Japanese paper bought in 1891 by Prince Roland Bonaparte, and presented to the Mitchell Library, Sydney, Australia (where it is shelved at ML 863), by the Princess George of Greece in 1933. Now thought to be neither by Tasman nor from 1644, this map is important for being the only first-hand record of Tasman's route in 1644.nPreface by John Metcalfe, Principal Librarian and Secretary of The Mitchell Library, SLNSW, list of illustrations, references and notes and selected bibliography. Central section has a double page map and on the verso of each side another map. An explanation and reproduction of the maps created on the voyage of Abel Tasman during the years 1642-1643 and, particularly the map of 1644.
