Description: Pieter Gooss Pascaerte Vande Zuyd-Zee belongs to the second wave of printed maps incorporating the discoveries of Abel Janszoon Tasman (164243 and 1644). Unlike the large-format wall maps and atlases produced by Joan Blaeu, which were closely associated with official VOC cartography and circulated selectively, Gooss chart represents a more commercial and practical nautical synthesis of Tasmans results.nThe chart depicts the Pacific Ocean and includes the outlines of Van Diemens Land (Tasmania), New Zealand, and parts of New Holland (Australia). It is oriented with west at the top, a convention typical of Dutch nautical cartography of the period.
