Description: The design is a temple of antiquity, with the Sun King Louis XIV in the upper left on horseback, also known as Louis the Great (Louis le Grand), king of France and of Navarra.nThe center figure has his French nickname "l' Hercule Francois", or the French Hercules. During Louis's long reign, France emerged as the leading European power and regularly asserted its military strength. nTo his right is Louis, Dauphin of France, the intended crown prince that would never be king because his dad reigned so long.nLeft and right of the title are Mars, symbolizing war, and Pallas Athena, symbolizing wisdom, useful arts and prudence of war.nBelow it on the pedestal are two battle views, on the left the Battle of Cassel of 1677, a French military battlefield victoriy over the Dutch of which they were immensely proud (the other European powers were of lesser importance at the time), nOn the right side the Battle of Seneffe of 1674, for which both sides claimed victory.
