Description: This is a series of thirteen engravings (Plates 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 26, 36, 46, 56, 66) depicting the traditional clothing of Dutch villagers, with a focus on depicting both male and female figures in costume. Each pages, except for Plate 9, is divided into two sections by a vertical centre line, featuring a male and a female dresssed din specific costume. The inscriptions accompanying the illustrations are provided in both Dutch and French. For example n''Plate 56, ''titled Quacker-Quakerin, presents themes of frugality and avarice:n''Dutch inscription: ''Vrek gierigheid. Den drijt geest vleijd. Wie t minst begeerd. Het minst ontbeerd. (Stinginess/Avarice. Snuggles the spirit. Who desires the least, misses the least.)n''French inscription:'' Son avarice. Est superstice. Notre basseur Brave grandeue. (His stinginess is superstition.
