Confirmed: Yes

Description: ''Volume 1: ''This volume presents a semi-fictionalised narrative of George Barringtons transportation to New South Wales following his conviction for pickpocketing. Barrington, a notorious criminal widely known as The Prince of Pickpockets, had served multiple sentences on the prison hulks at Woolwich before being transported to Australia in 1791. Remarkably, he would go on to become Superintendent of Convicts and later High Constable of New South Wales.nFramed as a memoir, the volume includes a biographical sketch of Barringtons early life, trial at the Old Bailey, and dramatic voyage aboard the convict ship Active. While presented in the first person, much of the text is drawn from other contemporary sources, and the attribution to Barrington is likely spurious. The engraved title page features a vignette of an Aboriginal man fishing from a canoe, setting the tone for the works romanticised and picturesque portrayal of the colony.nThe book contains a folding, hand-coloured map of New South Wales and ten hand-coloured plates. These include four views of Sidney (Sydney), as well as illustrations titled A Native Family, The Cape of Good Hope, The Peak of Teneriffe, Pinchgut Islands, Spotted Hyena, and Camelopard (Giraffe). It also offers embellished accounts of encounters with convicts and Indigenous people, reflections on colonial administration, and idealised representations of the natural world.
