Description: This expansive chart of the South Sea (Pacific Ocean) stretches from the Solomon Islands in the west to the coast of Lima in Peru. It was published in the 1661 two-volume edition of Robert Dudleys Arcano del Mare, a reissue of the original DellArcano del Mare first published in Florence between 1646 and 1647. The chart is engraved by Antonio Francesco Lucini and includes the reference L.o6.o in the title cartouche, placing it firmly in Book VI, page 60 of the 1661 edition.nDudleys chart reflects early European efforts to visualise the vast trans-Pacific corridor used by Spanish, Dutch, and English voyagers.
